Warhammer Tournaments and General Information

Hey everyone. I just wanted to post this here in hopes of getting more people to come out for the Fantasy tournaments. Chris does a superb job of running them, and everyone who is able to should show up if they are looking for a fun day of wargaming. We had 8 people show up yesterday, but I really think we should be able to pull in 10-12 people consistently. Obviously, not everyone is able to show up to each tournament, but I'm hoping that we can still average more people by rotating some people with others for any given month's tournament. Just in case not everyone knows, there is a Fantasy tournament scheduled for the 2nd Saturday of every month. The tournaments are 2,500 points and special characters are allowed (if this changes, I will let everyone know). The tournaments are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.

I can personally vouch for the enjoyment of these tournaments. The lists that people bring are generally tournament-competitive, but not over the top. If any of you have a bad experience with anyone's list, feel free to let me know, and I will let Chris know about it (or simply tell Chris himself if it's easier or about me, because well I'm sure I can be an @ss sometimes too =D).

In addition, please feel free to contact either of us about any other questions you might have or even general inquiries about Warhammer. Chris sends out a miniature gaming newsletter which details current happenings in the Louisiana Fantasy and 40k scenes. It's a great newsletter, and he sends it out probably once a month on average. Sometimes it's twice a month and sometimes it's every 2 months, but it is a great way to keep in touch with what's going on and when. E-mail him at the address provided below to sign up.

I am interested in learning how to play WHF. Would it be ok if I showed up and watched? Maybe someone could explane it to me. I am also interested in learning Lord of the Rings if anyone plays let me know.

Glad to hear you're interested in Warhammer Fantasy. The new 8th edition will be out soon, fyi and it would be a great time to get into it. That way, like the change from MKI to MKII for warmachine, you're not trying to learn new rule sets. Fantasy games are also played from time to time on any given Wed, Friday, and during the weekends as well. As far as Lord of the Rings, nobody that I know of at the store plays it, that I know of. Hey. Sure, feel free to show up to any tournament if you want to watch. As Maggy just said though, there is a new rulebook coming out very soon (In fact, the preview copy is already at the store). The next 2 tournaments will still be with the 7th Edition rules, but there are going to be people playing with the 8th Edition rules soon.

However, just getting a feel for the game is the most important thing, so it doesn't matter too much what edition you watch people play, but I would recommend holding off on actually learning the rules well yourself until 8th is out, because it is quite different. I might be there this Saturday evening for a while to play, and I'm sure people will be there Friday night that play as well.

What's your name, by the way? Not sure if I know you already or not.

I'd be interested in coming to the tourney on August 14th. I should be able to sport 2500 pts of O&G. I live in New Orleans and other than my usual gaming buddy I haven't found a good place for fantasy tourneys. Galactic Games here in New Orleans is too difficult to follow with not forum or website that i'm aware of. Will you be using 8th edition in August. I already have the book but i've yet to play an 8th game.

The August tournament is going to be a 7th Edition tournament, and it will be the final one. Come on out if you can; we are going to send 7th out in style!

By the way, Galactic Games closed several months ago. There is a new store opening up sometime in September though called +1 Gaming, and I believe it is going to be located in the Lakeside Mall.

The name of the store opening is +1 gaming and it will be opening in Independance Mall. The one with Houstons and Sake cafe in it.

Galactic Games closed at the beginning of the year, so there is nothing to keep up with.

good bye 7th ed. and welcome 8th.. it will be pedaling uphill at best for a while!
